"Our mission is to enable a better journey through breast cancer for anyone affected by a breast cancer diagnosis."

CO-FOUNDER & CANCER SURVIVOR

Irene Hendel OAM is a remarkable woman who, with her husband David, founded the Think Pink Foundation after her own battle with breast cancer. Her leadership has been pivotal in transitioning the foundation from its initial focus on funding research to providing a comprehensive range of support services for individuals affected by breast cancer.

Mrs Hendel’s personal journey and dedication have significantly influenced the foundation’s ethos, emphasizing compassion, tailored support, and the importance of addressing both emotional and practical needs of those undergoing cancer treatment. Her innovative approach, especially during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrates a deep commitment to the well-being of the foundation’s clients.

Who is Irene?

  • I was diagnosed with breast cancer twice, which deeply impacted my life. My experiences during treatment revealed a significant gap in support for women going through similar journeys. This realization, coupled with witnessing the struggles of other women, motivated me to create a sanctuary where support, in conjunction with and beyond medical treatment, could be offered freely.

  • Our mission is to enable a better journey through breast cancer for anyone affected by a breast cancer diagnosis – Clients, their partners and their families. We aim to provide a comprehensive range of services, encompassing wellness programs, emotional support, and practical assistance including lymphoedema massage and provision of wigs, free of charge. Our goal is to improve health outcomes, quality of life and to ensure no one faces this journey alone.

  • The foundation has become a beacon of hope and support for many. By offering a broad spectrum of services tailored to individual needs, we’ve created a community where individuals are understood, supported, and empowered. Our work goes beyond just addressing medical needs; it’s about nurturing the human spirit in the face of adversity.

  • The driving force behind our work is the belief in human kindness and the desire to make a positive difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer. Seeing the tangible impact our services have on individuals’ lives fuels our passion and commitment to continue expanding our reach and support.

  • Our vision is to continue to grow and evolve in response to the needs of those we serve. We aim to further broaden our reach, ensuring that anyone affected by breast cancer, regardless of their location or financial situation, can access the support and information they need. We’re committed to breaking down barriers and fostering a community of care, understanding and empowerment.
